About Us

We stand at a threshold where our behaviours are no longer sustainable for our ecology. Trees restore life in so many ways and tropical reforestation is one of our best solutions to climate change – providing up to 50% of the global warming solution over the next 50 crucial years, yet humanity is currently planting only half of what we cut globally. That’s why we’re inviting you to help us plant a billion trees a year and re-robe our planet in green. Our vision is of 2 million Treesisters standing together like a forest making this dream a reality.

Who We Are

TreeSisters is a global network of women who donate monthly to fund the restoration of our tropical forests as a collective expression of planetary care. Our goal is to make it as normal for everyone to give back to nature as it currently is to take nature for granted.

TreeSisters is an invitation to a new kind of feminine nature-based leadership and a felt sense of integrity about how we want to live in right relationship with nature. Our unique approach is based on the understanding that we need to reconnect to the natural world through the nature of our own bodies, so we can remember our sacred roles as restorers and protectors of Life.

Our Founder: Clare Dubois

Clare founded of TreeSisters after 20 years of individual and group facilitation working with consciousness, change processes and the liberation of what is possible in every human being.

Clare is leading the TreeSisters campaign; focusing on network development and the empowerment of women. She has been developing the ethos and principles, the team and organisational culture, the campaign strategy, the framework of the Maps and behaviour change materials. She is committed to the creation of an evolving system that learns as it goes and continually models itself upon the flows and forms of living systems.

About our Tree Planting Projects

Our generous network of treesisters are transforming both lives and landscapes in extraordinary ways. In October 2016 we successfully launched our “Million Trees per Year” campaign, where 2,300 women from 42 countries pledged to fund trees via monthly donations.

As of August 2017, TreeSisters have funded 1,031,705 trees in Kenya, Madagascar, Brazil and India. Our projects focus on restoring biodiverse tropical forests and ecosystems around the world, as well as helping communities, empowering women, and protecting the lives of critically endangered species.

Rainforests are one of the most effective solutions
to climate change that we have

“TreeSisters is one of, if not the most, significant initiatives that can be undertaken by humankind to address the future of civilization.” ~ Paul Hawken, author of Blessed Unrest and Project Drawdown

The Impact We’re Making Together…

Together we are restoring mangrove and dry deciduous forests in Madagascar and the habitat of their most endangered Lemurs, the jungles and community forests of Nepal, the vital agricultural lands of southern India and the ancient cloud forests in the far northeastern mountains of India, forest corridors in the last remaining fragments of the Atlantic forest in Brazil, the forest and watershed of Mount Kenya, and we are protecting the last 250 most endangered gorillas in Africa.

We are also transforming the lives of some of the most threatened communities in the world, with a special focus on empowering women, as deforestation impacts the lives of women most.

Embracing Life through the Forests and the Feminine

“Based on over 20 years of working with 200 NGOs around the world, TreeSisters rates in the top 20% of the most emotionally fulfilling, relevant and inspiring organisations on the planet.” ~ Catriona MacGregor, Founder of Nature Quests and Resilient Forests

Voices from the Sisterhood

We have a vibrant community of women from around the globe taking a stand for the trees, including monthly donors, tree planters, philanthropists, volunteers, WaterCarriers (who give a percentage of their business profits), Grove Tenders (who lead our women’s circles), as well as vital advocates and supporters.

“TreeSisters teachings about Feminine Nature Based Leadership / being a Restorer Species confirmed and inspired me to believe in our power to change the tide and begin a new path forward.”

~ Ruth Ford, Treesister, Hitchin UK

“I love the Standing Ones, and right now, the western forests are on fire. We need to restore them. They are our breath, as we are theirs… As I sit here in the smoke from the wildfires, I realize what it’s like to be oxygen depleted… We need to replant right away.”

~ Robin Youngblood, Treesister, Arlington USA

“The money we receive from planting trees is promoting our families. We are not all that poor anymore and we have improved our living standard… Women never surrender. Even if there’s money or not, the fact remains that we are here to plant trees for the benefit of all.”

~ Amastacia Mjoki Mjagi, tree planter, Mt Kenya

“It breaks my heart to see what we are doing to the earth and all of the creatures on it… To have an organization like TreeSisters to belong to where we are actually making a difference has lifted some of the heaviness and helplessness from my heart.”

~ Mary D’Angelo, Grove Tender, Rochester, New York, USA

“For me becoming a TreeSister was a no brainer. When I first discovered the TreeSister vision, the truth of it sent a shiver through my soul and I burst into tears. For years I have been consciously doing my bit to save the planet but for the first time I feel it’s actually possible. We are not just restoring the forests we are pioneering a new paradigm rooted in service, love and interconnectedness.”

~ Kamini, Treesister, Devon, UK

“When I discovered and learned about the work and mission of TreeSisters I felt an immediate and visceral reaction in my body. My soul came bursting to life and from deep within my belly a power began to vibrate with a strength that I have not quite felt before, not in all of my activist days. It is potent and powerful.”

~ Alexa Major, TreeSisters Volunteer, Maryland, USA

“[In our Grove] we offer adult literacy to the women who can’t read and write – dancing and acting – teaching the women about their rights and effects of domestic violence – for the HIV+ Sisters, we counsel them and refer them to the medical facilities for ARVs – during the rainy season, we give out trees for planting, one woman one tree – for single mothers we teach them tailoring skills – we teach them credit and savings… There is a saying that goes ‘women move the world’. And we don’t only believe in moving the world, but also preserving and sustaining it.”

~ Phionah, Grove Tender, Uganda

“TreeSisters gave me the power to GET UP when I found my spirit absolutely broken, at my emotional bottom, hopeless… TreeSisters gave me the power to get up and go on, despite it all… to just go on, and keep on going on. Seeding change and insisting on reforestation, in these dark times, is now, more than ever, vital to the future of our species.”

~ Hildur Pals, Volunteer and Treesister, Port Washington NY, USA
